Learn About the 2025 Toolkit

How do you actually inspire people to take positive actions with their finances? Particularly, for those who need it most. This is a question we’ve asked ourselves for years at America Saves. And over the past few years, we’ve leaned on our internal expertise, research, and our community to explore the ways in which we can be more inclusive and deeply resonate with people across demographics, lived experiences and backgrounds.

We recognize that Savers all have unique circumstances, and even if they are in a scenario that makes it difficult or impossible to save at this moment — they are committed to doing the work, taking control of their finances, and becoming more financially stable.

We all have unique circumstances - in many cases it makes it difficult, or nearly impossible for many to save at this stage of their lives. People that are still committed to doing the work, taking control of their finances, and becoming more financially stable - in every stage of life.

As always, each day of America Saves Week will have its own theme that touches on five important areas of financial wellness. These themes have been broadened so that you, our participating organizations, can connect with the concepts in the way that best supports your community and the work you do.

Together, thousands of organizations and institutions will amplify information, resources, and tools that will ensure Savers get clear on where their finances are, where they want them to be, and what small steps they can take now to put them on that path forward.

The #ASW2025 Toolkit will be released to existing and new participating organizations in early February 2025.

Day One | Saving Automatically

Sometimes the simplest actions create the strongest foundations—like saving automatically to build financial security.

Saving is a habit, not a destination and that’s the sentiment we want to convey on Day 1 of America Saves Week, where we highlight the significance of Saving Automatically.

Whether individuals choose to split their direct deposit or set up an auto-transfer through their financial institution, the benefits are clear: First, by establishing the habit, and two by setting and reaching attainable milestones that will be incredibly useful when and if an unexpected expense arises.

With inflation still impacting everyday costs and interest rates influencing financial planning, automating savings provides stability and helps Savers prepare for unexpected expenses or opportunities.

During this day of the week, encourage Savers to:

  • Set up automatic savings
  • Revisit the amount they contribute, if they have already established auto-savings.
  • Assess whether they have the best possible account for their savings and consider switching to a high-yield savings account to get the most out of savings.

How to measure impact on this day:

Consider creating a simple poll on via digital communications like email and social media or for in-person interactions and events, track how many individuals open a savings account, set up split deposit or auto-transfers, increase their savings contributions, or assess their accounts to ensure they have the best savings account vehicle.

Be sure to look at the additional content, messaging, special events, and resources that support the “Saving Automatically” theme inside the #ASW2025 Digital Toolkit.

Day Two | Saving For The Unexpected

It happens to all of us: you're on track with your savings goals, and then an unexpected expense comes along, disrupting your plans.

Every day, Americans face unplanned costs—whether it’s a car repair, a medical bill, or an emergency home expense. On Day 2 of America Saves Week, we focus on the importance of Saving for the Unexpected and encourage Savers to prepare for life’s curveballs by building an emergency fund.

In 2025, many households are navigating financial challenges from lingering economic uncertainty and fluctuating expenses. Establishing or growing an emergency fund provides peace of mind and reduces reliance on credit when the unexpected happens.

During this day of the week, encourage Savers to:

  • Begin to understand their Money Story and Money Values
  • Identify their savings goals
  • Use automatic savings to begin or grow their emergency savings accounts

How to measure impact on this day:

Request an embeddable pledge and encourage your community to better understand their financial habits and cycles, encourage your community to set up an emergency fund using automatic savings and tracked how many people you reached and how many individuals set up an account.

Additional content, messaging, special events, and resources to support the “Saving for the Unexpected” theme will be available inside the #ASW2025 Digital Toolkit.

Day Three | Saving For Major Milestones

How do you save for major milestones like buying a home, planning for retirement, or funding education when everyday expenses demand so much of your resources?

Saving for competing priorities can feel daunting, but breaking big goals into manageable, achievable steps can make all the difference. It’s not about perfection; it’s about progress.

On Day 3 of America Saves Week, we’re shining a light on Saving for Major Life Milestones, emphasizing that it’s possible to work toward significant financial goals while also meeting your everyday needs.

In 2025, with economic pressures still shaping many households’ financial outlooks, saving for life’s big moments may feel especially challenging. However, small, consistent efforts, like automating your savings and regularly revisiting your financial plan, can help you build momentum toward achieving these milestones.

Savers will:

  • Get a clear view of their financial landscape
  • Establish or revisit their Spending and Savings Plan
  • Learn a practical approach to saving for short, mid, and long-term financial goals

How To Measure Impact:

Encourage your community to attend the virtual workshop and share that they learned about the workshop from your organization.

Day Four | Paying Down Debt Is Saving

Just like having a plan for saving is important, so is having a plan to pay down your debt.

In 2025, the financial landscape continues to challenge many Americans as credit card usage remains high due to persistent inflation, rising living costs, and the reinstatement of student loan payments, and more. Coupled with elevated interest rates, these pressures make it even harder for households to pay off debt while also saving for emergencies or achieving financial confidence.

On Day 4 of America Saves Week, we want to remind individuals that paying down your debt is an essential component of savings. Paying down debt IS saving because reducing debt not only improves financial health but also creates more room in your budget for future savings.

We’ll support Savers by:

  • Sharing practical tips and strategies for reducing debt and improving their credit scores
  • Ensuring individuals understand how to access and review their credit reports

How to Measure Impact:

Encourage your community to check their credit report and get their credit score through annualcreditreport.com, tracking this information through links or polls.

Day Five | Saving At Any Age

The intent of America Saves Week is to pause to do a financial check-in, allowing you to get clear on where your finances are, where you want them to be, and what small steps you can take now to put you on that path. But what happens next?

Talking about money has long been considered taboo, but breaking that silence can lead to greater financial empowerment for everyone.

In 2025, financial conversations are more important than ever. Whether you’re talking to a child about the importance of saving, a friend about managing debt, or a parent about retirement plans. Sharing knowledge and experiences across generations can strengthen financial confidence and create a supportive environment for achieving goals.

This week, your community has gained some valuable insights, and the next step is to share those learnings and check-in with your loved ones.

On this last day of America Saves Week, we’ll encourage Savers to:

  • Talk to family members — from kids to older generations — about your money story and goals, including retirement plans, the importance of saving, and responsibly using credit.
  • If they haven’t, open up a savings account that aligns with what is most important to them right now, whether it's a college fund, an emergency savings account, or retirement planning.

How to Measure Impact:

Track new accounts opened by your community, encourage them to explore their Money Story by taking the America Saves Pledge and using your embeddable pledge link, and Share their Saver Story with us for chance to featured and earn cash prizes toward their savings.

Additional content, messaging, special events, and resources to support the “Saving at Any Age” theme is available inside the #ASW2025 Digital Toolkit.
