On the Texas Tech campus, Red to Black will have themed activities all week through Wednesday. The group is not only raising awareness about Red to Black’s informative abilities but to also encourage students to make a savings pledge. The focus of the week is to have students set goals, she said, and have the knowledge to know how to also save past that goal.
On Monday, the group had picture opportunities in the Free Speech Area of the Student Union Building for students to take pictures with Red to Black’s mascot, the Notorious P.I.G.. The main focus is going to be on savings pledges and helping students enter themselves into a contest through America Saves.
For the contest, people are encouraged to take pictures of a savings goal and upload it to social media with the hashtag, #ImSavingFor, she said. For this, there will be a photo booth set up with different props and various decorations. There will be many silly spring break props to tell students that it would be a wise idea to save up for spring break.
Wednesday will have a slightly different tone, she said, as Red to Black will be in the Free Speech Area during class change times handing out Pay Day candy bars. This relates to paying one’s self first.
Texas Tech University held a booth in their Student Union and encouraged students to share their savings goals at a Savings Selfie booth.
The week’s activities break the ice and get students comfortable talking about their plans for the future, be it near or far. The week also gives Red to Black the opportunity to show that the group is filled with normal students who are willing and able to give advice on how people can be fiscally responsible.
